Denmark’s Maersk Line has arisen as the charterer behind an arrangement which saw Global Ship Lease (GSL) buy seven 6,000 teu post-panamax containerships.
Prior in the month, GSL declared the $116m procurement of seven ships which will be sanctioned out for a time of three years, with two one-year expansion alternatives.
VesselsValue information demonstrates the boats to be the ER Berlin, ER Canada, ER Felixstowe, ER France, ER Kobe, ER London and ER Los Angeles. The site shows that Maersk may have moved to purchase the vessels toward the end of last year, before this most recent arrangement which saw GSL gain them.
Maersk affirmed to Splash that they are the charterer for the vessels, and said they will be utilized to improve the organization’s present contract limit.
The vessels are planned for conveyance to GSL during the second and third quarters of 2021, and will be renamed GSL Arcadia, GSL Dorothea, GSL Maria, GSL Melita, GSL MYNY, GSL Tegea and GSL Violetta.
