The existing cordial Platonic relationship between India and Maldives has strong potential for more fruitful, productive and strong business relations. Kochi- Maldives ferry service is vital critical enabler to accelerate export/import trade relations, and there is significant potential for investment in the Fisheries Sector that will have both economic and social impacts too”.
The strength of Maldives is fisheries which exports 24000 million dollars’ worth seafood during 2019-20. Tuna being the major component of seafood exports from Maldives; India exports Tuna worth 56 million dollar and major exporters are from Kerala hence there is strong potential for close collaboration, joint venture between Seafood exporters and importers from both the countries. Cochin with significant capabilities in Seafood processing could become the gateway for Seafood imports from Maldives and re-export the same to European markets with reduced transshipment time.
Sea Food Exporters & Importers from India could tap the immense potential of Raw Seafood available at Maldives and reprocess the same in India with value addition and major available world destinations. A closer cooperation between the seafood exporters from Maldives and India and the potential of canned processed Maldivian seafood in Indian Markets.
