Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Yard in China to build vessels as Wärtsilä secures repeat order
In a significant development for the maritime industry’s sustainability efforts, Wärtsilä, a global leader in advanced technologies and sustainable solutions for the marine and energy markets, has secured an order to supply LNG Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) for four new 23,000 TEU container vessels to be constructed for CMA CGM, a world-renowned shipping giant.
Cutting-Edge Vessels by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Yard
The impressive new vessels will be constructed at the renowned Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding yard in China. As part of this crucial partnership, Wärtsilä is entrusted with supplying the complete FGSS system, which includes the boil-off gas compressor (BOGC) skid delivery, system engineering, supervision, commissioning, and testing.
Delivery and Deployment Timeline
The equipment, essential for harnessing the benefits of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner-burning marine fuel, is scheduled for delivery to the yard in early 2024. Anticipated to set sail into the world’s waters, the first two of these groundbreaking vessels are expected to be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2025, while the remaining pair will join the fleet in the latter half of 2026.
A Trusted Partnership
This marks a repeat order for Wärtsilä, as the company has previously supplied FGSS systems to 30 of CMA CGM’s newbuild vessels. The trust and collaboration between the two industry leaders underscore Wärtsilä’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet the stringent operational and classification society requirements of modern vessels.
A Sustainable and Cleaner Future
The Wärtsilä FGSS system is revered for its reliability and efficiency in supplying LNG fuel to container ships. Engineered to accommodate a wide range of LNG fueling systems, it underscores the company’s dedication to sustainability and innovation.
This order for FGSS systems is not only a testament to Wärtsilä’s technology and expertise but also serves as a resounding endorsement of CMA CGM’s commitment to utilizing LNG as a marine fuel. LNG offers significant environmental advantages, with emissions reduction being one of its standout features when compared to traditional marine fuels.
This partnership marks a significant stride towards achieving sustainability goals within the maritime industry. As the global shipping sector continues its transformation towards cleaner and more eco-friendly operations, collaborations like these play a pivotal role in reducing the environmental footprint of maritime transportation.
As the world applauds this endeavor, it is clear that Wärtsilä and CMA CGM are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future in the maritime domain, where innovation and commitment converge for the greater good of the planet.
