The 75th Independence Day was celebrated at NMPT by the Port employees with fervor & gaiety. The celebration was restrained to 50 attendees in the venue following the COVID guidelines like social distancing; wearing of masks that are absolutely imperative to make sure that the celebration is carried out in safe manner. Dr. A.V. Ramana, Chairman of the Port presided over the function and hoisted the National Flag to commemorate 75th Independence Day celebration. Chairman reviewed the parade contingent consisting of CISF, Fire Service personnel of the Port. Considering the COVID protocol to be followed the parade contingent was also restrained to smaller number duly following the appropriate behavior. On this occasion the Chairman addressed the gathering and spoke about “AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV” an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture & achievements. He added that as a part of the celebration the Port has conducted various competitions as per the directions of the Ministry for the employees and their dependents, school children studying in nearby schools. Competitions such as essay writing, singing patriotic songs, drawing / painting competitions, dance, fancy dress & quiz competitions were organized in view of the Amrut Mahotsav. In addition to the above, other projects like assistance to orphanages, free medical camp, road shows, exhibitions etc. are at various stages of progress. Prizes were distributed to the school children who won in the competitions held in view of “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”. Chairman further added, in spite of the lockdown and subsequent restrictions, we, at NMPT could improve in overall performance. During the first 4 months of the current fiscal, we could handle 12.50 Million tonnes of cargo as against 11.56 million tonnes handled in the corresponding period of last year and thereby registered 8.16% growth. The container traffic also has registered 38% growth by handling 57,683 TEUs during the current year. It is expected that the Port will reach new heights with the support of EXIM Trade and its stake holders in the coming years.
