The first cruise ship arrived at Chennai port after the recent bout of Corona pandemic when a French flag vessel M V LE CHAMPLAIN arrived here on January 10th on a 24 hour visit.

The vessel had 108 passengers and 118 crew will leave for Sri Lanka’s eastern port town of Trincomalee on January 11th.

The Tour Operators informed that the passengers have plans to visit St. Fort George Museum, Santhome Cathedral, Kapaleeswarar temple and Dakshin Chitra. Industry sources said they should have taken to Mahabalipuram which is just one hour drive from Chennai.

Chairperson of Chennai Port Authority SUNIL PALIWAL, emphasized the historical importance of Chennai Port and the role played to promote International Cruise Tourism in India.

He specified the various facilitating measures undertaken by the Central, State Government, Vessel Agent M/s. GAC Shipping (India) Private Limited and other agencies. He hoped that with the modernized Cruise Terminal the Port may attract more such Cruise vessels in post pandemic time.
