Two of the largest container shipping companies in the world have revised their prices in Australia and New Zealand due to the higher container demand.
Hapag-Lloyd has announced new general rate increases (GRI) in Australia and New Zealand, which are expected to take effect on 1 July.
The German line will implement the following GRI for all dry, reefer, non-operating reefer, tank, flat rack and open-top containers from the United States and Canada ports to Australia and New Zealand:
- US$200 per all 20′ container types
- US$400 per all 40′ container types
Additionally, Hapag-Lloyd will apply a GRI from New Zealand and Australia for all types of boxes, as follows:
- US$250/20’ all equipment types
- US$500/40’ all equipment types
Furthermore, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has confirmed the extension of the peak season surcharge (PSS) period for Europe to Oceania trade until 30 June, due to the strong container demand between the two regions. The Swiss-based carrier announced in April the following freight rates including a PSS.
