Lufthansa places an order of seven Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters, the latter of which will cater to the extra cargo load in the near term until delivery of the group’s first 777-8F.
Further, modernizing its long-haul passenger fleet, Lufthansa also purchases seven new 787-9s.
The order for more 787s brings the group’s total order book for the 787 Dreamliner to 32 firm orders.
Lufthansa also is a launch customer for the 777X passenger airplane, with 20 firm orders.

Launched in January, Boeing’s new 777-8 Freighter has already received 34 firm orders for the model.
The 777-8 Freighter offers nearly identical payload and range capabilities to the 777F but has 30% better fuel efficiency and emissions, 25% better-operating costs per tonne, and an airport-noise footprint that is 60% smaller than the previous generation of freighters.
Boeing Commercial Market Outlook 2021 predicted an increase of 70% in the global freighter fleet by 2040, including approximately 450 new large widebody freighters such as the new 777-8 Freighter and 777 Freighter.
The First delivery of the 777-8 freighter is anticipated in 2027.
