Marking a new era for the Kingdom of Bahrain’s aviation sector, Bahrain International Airport’s $1.1 billion new passenger terminal began operations on 28th January.
The new expanded, airport will have the capacity to manage 14million passengers per year. It is roughly 4times bigger than the old terminal, at 207,000 square metres in size.
The new terminal is around 1 km long and it has 104 check in counters at landside. Middle of the terminal is arranged for the immigration and security screenings. There are duty free shops on both sides after the airside, but to get to the gate you don’t have to walk past the shops. The centre space of the new terminal is the huge screen, showing some Bahraini moments along with soothing music. During a very challenging period of Covid 19 pandamic, the new terminal was opened without a public trial. Around 5000 passengers are using the new terminal on a daily basis. The passenger aircraft contains a total of 24 gates. The new terminal is designed with several features inside representing the culture of Bahrain and the Gulf.
