Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ayush, along with Shri Sanjeev Ranjan IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya IAS, Additional Secretary (MoPSW) reviewed the important projects and the functioning of Cochin Port Trust today during a meeting held with Dr. M. Beena IAS Chairperson and the senior officers of the Cochin Port. The meeting was attended by Capt. Joseph J. Alapat, Dy. chairman (i/c), Smt. C. Premakumari, Secretary, Shri S.K. Sahu, Financial Adviser & Chief Accounts Officer, Shri Vipin R. Menoth, Traffic Manager, Shri Paritosh Bala, Chief Engineer, Shri V. Thuraipandian, Chief Mechanical Engineer and Dr. Roy Thomas, Chief Medical Officer of Cochin Port Trust.

After the Review Meeting, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held among the employees of Cochin Port Trust and school students as part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2021, in the presence of Shri Sanjeev Ranjan IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya IAS, Additional Secretary (MoPSW), Dr. M. Beena IAS, Chairperson and Shri K. Rajendran, Chief Vigilance Officer, Cochin Port Trust. He also felicitated the Covid warriors of Cochin Port Trust Hospital and the international badminton player of Cochin Port Trust who has been selected to represent India in the Senior World Badminton Championship to be held at Spain in November 2021.

The Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister also held an interactive session with the stakeholders of Cochin Port Trust. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Bureau of Immigration, India Tourism, BPCL, IOCL, HPCL, Petronet LNG, FACT, DP World, Cochin Shipyard Limited, Cochin Steamer Agents’ Association, Cochin Custom Brokers’ Association, Federation of Indian Export Organisations and Kottayam Port.

Today (01.11.2021), the Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ayush will visit Cochin Port Trust to inaugurate the new Radar system and Vessel Traffic Management System of Cochin Port. The VTMS commissioned in Cochin Port in 2009 has been upgraded with a state-of-the-art system consisting of 2 new radars, 1 AIS Base station, 3 VHF Radios and associated software and hardware installed at a cost of ₹5.8-Cr.

The Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister will also carry out an inspection of the Port infrastructure and new projects of Cochin Port during a tug ride in the Cochin harbour today.
