Container ship PRESIDENT EISENHOWER suffered fire in engine room and was disabled at around 0900 UTC Apr 28, shortly after leaving Los Angeles, bound for San Francisco. Fire was extinguished by crew, no injures reported. The ship went adrift soe 20 nm off Santa Barbara coast. Coast Guard responded and sent a ship to assist. As of 0330 UTC Apr 29, the ship was moving towards Los Angeles at some 4.5 knots speed, understood on tow of two tugs, SHIRLEY C and TERESA BRUSCO.
