If all goes as per plan, people in Visakhapatnam will soon be able to dine in style at this abandoned Bangladeshi cargo ship, MV Maa. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation bought this ship for Rs 1.25 crore from Gill Marines, the firm that had purchased the abandoned ship as a wreck from the insurers. Gill Marines has been asked to develop the ship into a floating restaurant with a capacity to host 500 people. Even as the modification work is on, tourists have been allowed to visit the ship. It may be recalled that the ship had drifted from its anchorage point and ran aground near Tenneti Park in Visakhapatnam in October. The ship could not be salvaged, and the Bangladeshi owners declared it as abandoned. The ship’s insurers then declared the vessel as a wreck and sold it to Gill Marines.
