Wan Hai Lines has confirmed an order of four container vessels with 13,100TEU capacity, as part of the company’s fleet improvement plan.
The new vessels will be built by the South Korean shipbuilding company, Samsung Heavy Industries, according to the contract signed on 31 May, and will start taking delivery in the second quarter of 2023.
This move comes approximately two weeks after Wan Hai’s acquisition of four 13,100TEU new boxships by Capital Maritime & Trading.
Currently, Wan Hai Lines operates a vessel fleet of 83 owned and 62 chartered container ships. The new shipbuilding contract is the company’s latest fleet upsizing plan, so as to “ensure that the company’s vessel fleet is able to maintain competitive and support continuous market development,” pointed out the Taiwan-based carrier, which aims to improve its service quality through its vessel renewal plan.
